Malian music legend "Vieux" Farka Touré on tour in SA

The legendary Malian singer and guitarist Boureima "Vieux" Farka Touré will give two exceptional concerts in SA in January, the first at Bassline in Jo'burg (January 18th, 2013) and the second at the Rainbow Jazz Club in Durban (January 20th, 2013). Sometimes dubbed the "Hendrix of the Sahara", "Vieux" Farka Touré was born in Mali in 1981, the son of Grammy-winning Malian musician Ali Farka Touré. Despite his father's discouragement, Touré soon secretly took up the guitar.

Revise your French classics with the Rand Symphony Orchestra

The Rand Symphony Orchestra presents a series of two concerts dedicated to several major French classic composers. The concerts feature three of Opera Africa’s artists Kelebogile Boikanyo - 2012 Standard Bank Young Artist awardee in Music, Thembisile Twala and Zandile Gwebityala  performing arias and duets from French operas by Massenet, Offenbach, Delibes, Bizet and Gounod. The programme will also include renowned pianist Malcolm Nay performing Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No.2 and Isabella Snyman’s performing Offenbach’s Doll’s Aria. In addition a number of shorter orchestral works will be performed. The two programmes will be conducted by the Rand Symphony Orchestra’s maestro Bernard Wozny. These concerts are part of the France-South Africa Seasons 2012 & 2013.

The fisrt edition of the Cape Town World Music Festival to start in a few days!

The first of its kind, the Cape Town World Music Festival will be an accessible inner-city music festival showcasing the best in World Music on Friday the 9th and Saturday the 10th of November, 2012. The festival is designed for enthusiastic fans of the genre, but also hopes to attract a new culturally curious audience. Cape Town will experience 32 acts over two days, placed on four unique stages, each showcasing diverse music from across the globe. Several French musical acts at the Rocking the Daisies festival

The 7th edition of Rocking the Daisies festival will take place in Darling (Western Cape) from 4 to 7 October. An established lifestyle and music festival, Rocking the Daisies is this year part of the French Season in South Africa. Nôze, a French band, will rock the next Balkanology

Balkanology are bi-annual parties associating eclectic artists, designers, music lovers and people from the film industry. The circus-like party prides itself in letting people lose their inhibitions and have the craziest maddest party. An all-encompassing experience, all senses are teased with great attention to detail. With actors blending in with the crowds, extreme design is “carnivalesque gypsy-cabaret” and the most infectious music on the globe played through top-end sound systems by top-end DJ’s and bands. The next Balkanology will be held in Cape Town on the 7th of September and Jo'burg on the 8th and will feature the French electronic duo Nôze.
